The Windsor HVAC market, measured

We surveyed 56 HVAC contractors in Windsor (Southwestern Ontario) as part of our 428-business Ontario survey. The median shop had 30 Google reviews, and 41 of the 56 had fewer than 150 — an owner-run market, not a corporate one.

3 of the 56 showed a detectable field-service platform on their public website (ServiceTitan (2), HousecallPro (1)), lower than the 11% we saw across Ontario. 48 of 56 had a website at all.

"Platform detected" means our fingerprint check found evidence on the public website. It isn't a claim about what software a shop actually runs internally.

Why this shapes call handling in Windsor

A market of small owner-run shops is a market where nobody is sitting at a desk waiting for the phone. The owner is on a job, and the phone is in a pocket under a jacket. That's not a criticism — it's the operating reality of a three-truck business, and it's why after-hours coverage in Southwestern Ontario is usually an on-call rotation or a cell forward rather than a front desk.

The consequence is predictable. Daytime calls get returned late; evening and weekend calls get missed outright, and those are the expensive ones.
